Deputy CEO in charge of Operations at the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr Kwesi Djokoto, has called for collective support to help communities affected by the recent floods in the Keta Municipality.

Dr Djokoto spent much of Saturday visiting flood-affected communities across the municipality, including his hometown, Anyako, where he saw the impact of the floods on families, homes, businesses and livelihoods.

He commended the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), the Keta Municipal Health Directorate and the NHIA for their swift response and efforts to support affected residents.

According to him, the interventions by these institutions have provided some relief to families going through a difficult period.

Dr Djokoto said he had also been able to mobilise some support through his personal and professional networks to complement the ongoing relief efforts.

However, he noted that much more support was needed to help affected families recover and rebuild their lives.

He has therefore proposed a major fundraising initiative with a target of GHS 1 million to support relief efforts, recovery and the rebuilding of communities affected by the floods.

Dr Djokoto said further details of the fundraising initiative would be announced after consultations with key stakeholders.

He called on individuals, corporate organisations, development partners, philanthropists and friends of Keta to join the recovery effort.

He said the current situation calls for solidarity and collective action to help affected families restore their livelihoods and rebuild their communities.

“Together, we can help restore livelihoods, rebuild communities, and give hope to those who have lost so much,” he said.
