NADMO and Zoomlion Launch ‘No Do No Do’ Campaign to Fight Flooding and Promote Clean Communities
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and Zoomlion Ghana Limited have launched a nationwide public awareness campaign aimed at reducing flooding and promoting proper waste disposal across the country.
The initiative, known as the “No Do No Do” Campaign, carries the message: “Don’t Dump, Don’t Block, Let Water Flow.” The campaign seeks to educate the public on the dangers of dumping refuse into drains and waterways, a practice authorities say continues to contribute significantly to flooding, especially during the rainy season.
The 12-week campaign was launched in Accra and will involve public education, community outreach programmes, clean-up exercises, drain desilting activities, and stakeholder engagements in communities across the country.
Speaking at the launch, Greater Accra Regional Director of NADMO, Dennis Adjannor Nartey, said many flood disasters experienced in Ghana can be prevented if residents adopt responsible sanitation practices and keep drains free from waste.
According to him, blocked drains and poor drainage systems remain major causes of flooding, resulting in the loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption of economic activities whenever heavy rains occur.
He stressed that flooding should not be accepted as an unavoidable natural occurrence but rather as a challenge that can be addressed through collective action.
“Flooding is not a natural disaster. It is a challenge we can solve when government, the private sector and communities work together,” he stated.
Mr. Nartey explained that the partnership between NADMO and Zoomlion will combine community engagement, public education, technology, and practical interventions to address the root causes of flooding.
He urged residents, institutions, traditional leaders, and community groups to support the campaign by practicing proper waste disposal and encouraging others to do the same.
Also speaking at the event, General Manager for Governmental Affairs, Strategic Partnerships, Corporate Affairs, Media and Brands at Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Emma Adwoa Appiah Osei-Duah, described the campaign as a call for behavioural change and environmental responsibility.
She noted that every year, flooding continues to affect many communities because drains are blocked with waste and waterways are obstructed.
“The message is simple but powerful: Don’t dump. Don’t block. Let water flow,” she said.
According to Ms. Osei-Duah, flood prevention starts with individual responsibility, adding that every citizen has a role to play in keeping the environment clean and ensuring that drainage systems function properly.
She said Zoomlion’s experience in waste management, together with NADMO’s expertise in disaster preparedness and response, provides a strong platform to drive long-term behavioural change and improve sanitation across the country.
Organisers believe the campaign will help reposition waste management as a shared responsibility and encourage citizens to take ownership of their communities.
As the rainy season continues, NADMO and Zoomlion are calling on all Ghanaians to support the initiative by avoiding indiscriminate dumping of waste and helping to keep drains clear to reduce the risk of flooding.
The two organisations say sustained public education, community participation, and responsible sanitation practices remain key to building safer, cleaner, and more resilient communities across Ghana.
